Review

Do me a favor- think of the best looking scrolling shooters on PlayStation. OK,
good. And perhaps as images of Philosoma and Raystorm flit through your
heads, know this- Square’s Einhander makes these two games look like kiddy
fodder. In a word, it’s beautiful.

The predominant mode of play in Einhander is straightforward side scrolling
within a 3D environment, with the occasional camera swing to a rear or front
three quarter view for added drama. These transitions are seamless and the
angle change is not extreme enough to throw your control out of whack. It’s
worth noting that some of the coolest moments in the game occur during these
camera shifts (which are generally put to good use before some awe-inspiring
                           boss encounter).

As alluded to earlier, Einhander is a visual treat of massive proportions. You’ve
got eye watering 60fps madness going on while delicate light sourcing creates a
convincing reality out of the polygonal models. The enemies in the game are
incredibly well animated and the entire thing just screams," I am gorgeous, look
at me, look at me!!". Which you are, in fact, basically forced to do if the game is
                           in your presence.

Now I wouldn’t be raving about this game in any fashion, beautiful or not, if it
didn’t play well, and Einhander plays just fine. Destroying hordes of enemies is a
satisfying experience and their patterns are quite decent. There’s a great
weapon system, and based upon which craft you choose at the beginning of the
game, you can double up on your pick-up weapons. And of course, you’ve got
the epic boss (and even mid-boss, on occasion) encounters which just slap you
in the face with their coolness.

I encourage just about any shooter fan to pick up an import copy. It’s easily the best looking
shooter ever on PlayStation and it plays great. What more do you want.

CHEATS AND HINTS

Extra Ships
If you beat the game on easy without continuing, you'll get a new ship to select. It looks like one of the flying cars in the first
area. If you beat the game on hard
without continuing, you'll get ship that has 9,999 for the gunpods it finds or has equipped.

Gallery Mode
To unlock Gallery Mode, beat the game at any difficulty.

Hidden Weapons
Juno Has the rate of fire of a Vulcan, and the power of approximately a normal gunshot, per bullet.

Stage 1 - Gain all three skill bonuses (destroy all gun carriers until neon signs, then destroy red carrier after signs; destroy all
neon signs; destroy only bottom saucer section of mid-boss.) When you reach the boss, do not attack him as normal. Instead, wait for him to move toward you (with the side-scrolling view.) One of his attacks is a gun pod from his back. Once in every 10 or so time, this weapon is the Juno.

Stage 4 - A large boat will pop out of the water. Destroy the body only. The tower will fly off. Dodge and kill this tower
before it leaves the screen. It will drop the Juno and give you a skill bonus. Flash Similar to the Cannon, can kill any non-boss enemy in fewer than 3 shots.

Stage 3 - After spider mid-boss, destroy the large pylon at the top of the screen, and then destroy every item that falls from
it. Use a Juno or Vulcan for greater success. This will award a skill bonus and the Flash.

Stage 5 - Take apart the mid-boss piece by piece before killing him. This earns the Flash and a skill bonus.
Mosquito Similar to the Wasp, fires missles which are guided by the control pad. A little stronger than the Wasp's missles.

Stage 4 - At the small maze-like section, move as quickly as possible down the tunnels, and pick up the Spreader on the
way. Switch the Spreader to your top slot. A couple of floors straight down will be an enemy and a set of barrels directly behind you. Destroy the barrels to obtain the Mosquito. Python Powerful mines, similar to Hedgehog. Very hard to use.

Stage 5 - Destroy large vehicle in the background of the first part of the stage. Must use Wasp.

Unlock Earthen Fighter - Unlock 15 or more secrets and defeat the game under any difficulty level.

Unlock Moon Fighter - Beat the game with the difficulty set to hard and without continuing more than two times
 to unlock this killer ship.

Unlock Gallery - Beat the game with a High Ranking to access the Gallery option from the Main Menu.
